Action Items: Inclusive and Welcoming Schools and Universities

"Speak the truth even when it is bitter" ~ Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). CAIR-TX is committed to speak the truth and stand firm for justice. We also want to ensure our next generation is able to continue the mission. We ask for a learning environment where students can research, question credibility, evaluate evidence, improve their argument, and speak out their minds.
Therefore, we urge all Texans to take a few minutes to ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment for all students in public schools and universities in the light of the current climate.

K-12 Bolstering Biased Educational Resources:

On Oct. 20th, Governor Greg Abbott encouraged K-12 schools in Texas to utilize a bolstering educational resources regarding what he called "Israeli Conflict". By examining the resources, it was clear that they are created by organizations favoring only one side.
We, in CAIR Austin/DFW, believe that the resources should reflect the input of both sides to help students develop critical thinking skills and bring different perspectives into classroom discussions.
-Send Letters to the State Board of Education (SBOE) and Texas Education Agency Commissioner, Mike Morath, asking them to adopt a balanced curriculum and support all students.
-Send Opt-Out letter to your child's school to show your objection to the suggested curriculum and ask for alternative activities for your child if the school decides to adopt the new curriculum.

UT Austin President Biased Statement:

The president's single-sided message sent to the students and staff on Oct. 17th failed to acknowledge the suffering of the Palestinians under a brutal occupation. Such a unilateral message can harm not only the unity and wellbeing of students, but also the reputation of the university. CAIR-Austin asked him to reconsider his message, acknowledge Islamophobia, and meet the local Muslim leader in Nueces Mosque.
-Sign THE PETITION demanding president Hartzell to adopt a balanced view.

UT Dallas President Biased Statement:

President Benson's single-sided message to the students and staff sent on Oct. 16th created a disappointment and unwelcoming environment to many students who identify as Arab, Muslims, Palestinians, and Brown. CAIR-DFW asked him to write a condemnation of Israel’s actions against international law and to recognize the current and historical suffering of Palestinians under a brutal occupation.
